Knights tracksters take runner-up, fifth at districts

PATASKALA — The track teams for the Northmor Golden Knights were at Watkins Memorial High School competing in the Division III Central District track and field meet last week.

Northmor’s boys squad finished as the runner-up behind Columbus Academy (98) with 92 team points. Northmor claimed district titles in four events and will be sending two relay teams and four individuals to the regional meet this week.

Claiming titles for the Knights were Kolton Smith, James Walker, Meechie Johnson and Tony Martinez.

Smith earned the title in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing the race in 15.33. Anthony Petulla grabbed sixth place points for Northmor in the event, finishing in 17.53. Walker was the champion in the high jump, clearing 6’ en route to the crown with Smith claiming second (5’11”). Meechie outjumped the field in the long jump with a leap of 23’6.5” to take the championship and Martinez won the pole vault, clearing 11’6”. Aaron Berg also earned points in the event with a height of 9’. Nathan Price also earned a point for Northmor in the boys shot put, taking eighth with a throw of 37’11.75”.

The duo of Walker and Smith will also be representing the Knights at regionals in the 300-meter hurdles. Walker finished as the runner-up in a time of 41.45 and Smith, third, in 42.12.

Also moving on to regional competition will be the 4×800 and 4×400-meter relay teams. The team of AJ White, Walker, Alec Moore and Mostyn Evans advanced by finishing fourth overall with a time of 8:49.57. In the 4×4, Drew Zoll, Walker, Calvin Komer and Moore also claimed fourth in a time of 3:33.35. Petulla, Zoll, Wyatt Lessick and Komer finished seventh in the 4×200 with a time of 1:37.44.

Moore and Komer also earned points for Northmor in the 400-meter dash, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively. Meechie rounded out the scoring for the Knights, earning eighth in the 100 (12.30) and fifth in the 200 (23.92).

Northmor’s girls squad took fifth place at districts with 52 points. Mount Gilead won the title with 108 team points. The Lady Knights will be sending off one champion, two relay teams and three other individuals off to the regional meet.

Hope Miracle claimed Northmor’s only title at districts, capturing first place in the pole vault with a height of 9’8”.

Joining Miracle will be the 4×800 and 4×400 relay teams. In the 4×8, Julianna Ditullio, Rachel Morrison, Samantha Peters and Maddie Jordan took fourth with a time of 10:32.61. Brooke Bennett, Ditullio, Jordan and Bailey Huntsman also earned fourth in the 4×4 with a finishing time of 4:20.93 to advance. The 4×100 squad of Vivenne Cutrupi, Cristianna Boggs, Huntsman and Bailey Wiseman scored seventh place points with a time of 55.59. Cutrupi, Boggs, Sabrina Kelley and Wiseman also took seventh in the 4×200 (1:57.15).

Jessica Duryea, Bennett and Ditullio will also be joining Miracle and the relay squads in Lancaster.

Duryea is moving on to regionals after claiming a third place finish in the 1600-meter run, finishing the event with a time of 5:43.23. Duryea also earned sixth place points in the 3200 (13:13.36). Bennett will be competing in the 400 and 200-meter dashes this week. Bennett took third in the 400 (61.20) and fourth in the 200 (27.17). After an eighth place finish in the 300-hurdles (55.39), Ditullio advanced to regionals in the long jump, earning fourth place with a jump of 15’9”. Selena Cortez wrapped the Northmor scoring, earning a seventh place finish in the shot put (28’10”).

Both of the Northmor squads will join the Colonel Crawford Lady Eagles in Division III Region XI competition at Lancaster Fairfield Union High School. Action will take place on Wednesday May 24 and Friday May 26 at 5 pm.
