Tigers beat North Union, weather in MOAC baseball

RICHWOOD — The Galion Tigers baseball team looked to not only remain hot, but to stay ahead of ,impending bad weather when they traveled to meet up with Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division foe North Union on Friday.

Galion won a rain-shortened contest, 5-2. Since the game was not in a tie heading into the bottom of the seventh, it was ruled a complete game.

The Tigers scored their five runs on seven hits while committing just one error in the field. North Union had four hits and an error.

Mac Spears was the winning pitcher on the day for Galion, going 5.2 innings, throwing 84 pitches, scattering four hits, two runs (one earned) while striking out three Wildcats hitters. Ryan Talbott came on in relief, threw one pitch and record one out. At the plate, Spears finished with a single and Talbott delivered a single, a double, scored a run and drove in two runs.

Aaron Barnhart knocked a double for Galion’s only other extra-base hit on the day. Mitch Dyer recorded a single while driving a run in and scoring a run. Ryan Utz scored a run and had a single and Garrett Kuns delivered a single for the Tigers’ offense. Chase Castline would not earn a hit but stole a base on the day and scored twice.

A pair of home games await the Tigers. On Monday, Galion will host the Shelby Whippets in non-league play before welcoming MOAC foe Buckeye Valley Barons on Wednesday,May 3.
