GALION— The Northmor Golden Knights baseball squad improved to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division action when they defeated the Centerburg Trojans 5-4 Wednesday.

Through the first five innings, the Knights managed just one run and trailed 2-1 entering the top of the sixth. A late-inning serge of two runs in the sixth and two runs in the top of the seventh helped propel Northmor to its third win.

Northmor recorded seven hits on the day and had one error on defense. Centerburg scored their four runs on five hits and committed two errors.

Kyle Kegley went six innings for the Golden Knights, giving up four hits and three runs (two earned) while walking three and striking out four. Chris Bood came into the contest for just a third of an inning, allowed a hit and a run and walked two Centerburg hitters. Sam Eichorn picked up the win, finishing off the final two outs of the game without allowing a hit.

Wyatt Reeder and Mostyn Evans continued their success at the plate, hitting two singles apiece. Jordan Wiseman picked up Northmor’s only extra base hit, a double. Nate Hall and Conan Becker each had singles to round out the Knights’ offensive attack.

“We were able to hang around with good pitching and defense and get hot with the bats late,” said head coach Buck Workman in an email.

Northmor looks to stay on the winning path when they host the Mansfield Senior Tygers on Saturday April 1. This was originally set to be a doubleheader but will now be just one junior varsity and one varsity game. On Monday April 3, MOAC play will resume when Northmor will hit the road to face-off against the Elgin Comets.
