Eagles hoping for at-large invites to state swim meet

BOWLING GREEN — At the crowded Cooper Pool on the Bowling Green State University campus, hundreds of Ohio high school swimmers took to the water for a chance at a state swimming championship berth. Although the state qualifiers won’t be officially announced until Sunday Feb. 19, here is how the Colonel Crawford Eagles swimmers did on Friday.

The boys’ squad from Colonel Crawford competed in four individual events and two relay events at the district meet at BGSU.

50-yard freestyle: 19. Jake Johnson, 23.20

500-yard freestyle: 9. Nic Motter, 5:08.03; 32. Ken Fernandez, 5:44.67

100-yard breaststroke: 6. Johnson, 1:02.40

200-yard individual medley: 9. Motter, 2:07.84

200-yard freestyle relay: 16. Alex Hershey, Fernandez, Motter and Johnson, 1:37.89

400-yard freestyle relay: 15. Keton Pfeifer, Fernandez, Motter and Johnson, 3:36.11

Crawford’s girls swim team also had competitors in four individual events on Friday and participated in all three relay races.

50-yard freestyle: 11. Jillianne Gregg, 25.44; 16. Pierce Krassow, 25.68

100-yard freestyle: 17. P.Krassow, 57.38

100-yard butterfly: 20. Gregg, 1:06.85

100-yard breaststroke: 18. Drew Krassow, 1:13.70

200-yard medley relay: 9. P.Krassow, D.Krassow, Gregg and Hailey Ratliff, 1:56.45

200-yard freestyle relay: 13. P.Krassow, Chloe Carman, Ratliff and Gregg, 1:46.69

400-yard freestyle relay: 24. Ratliff, Carman, Kennedy Speck and Karlie Kurtzman, 4:10.11

No Colonel Crawford individual swimmer or relay team has “unofficially” qualified for the state championship meet in Canton. Just a reminder, official announcement of state qualifiers will not be made until Sunday Feb. 19.
