UPPER SANDUSKY — The Colonel Crawford Lady Eagles basketball team celebrated Valentine’s Day with a trip to Upper Sandusky to meet with the Northern-10 Athletic Conference champion Lady Rams. Unfortunately, Crawford could not get the offense going and lost 50-26.

Colonel Crawford drops to 11-10 on the season and 8-8 within the N-10. Upper Sandusky moves to 21-1 overall and remains undefeated in the conference at 16-0.

This contest was all Lady Rams from the opening tip. Crawford would go on to score just two points in the first quarter of play and found themselves in a 14-2 deficit against a tough Upper team. The second quarter of play wouldn’t be much different as the Rams put up a dozen more points to the Eagles’ seven to take a convincing 26-9 into halftime. Both teams managed just eight points apiece in the third but Upper would use a 16-9 fourth quarter to put away the Lady Eagles.

Ashley Gwirtz scored 15 points on the night for head coach Kyle Fenner’s Eagles squad. Alexus Burkhart was shut down and managed just eight points. Caitlin Koschnick chipped in two points and Danielle Horsley had a single point in the loss.

Abigail Fogle, second in the N-10 in scoring this season, dropped 23 points on the night against the Crawford defense. Megan Hensel also finished in double figures for the Lady Rams with 13 points.

Crawford looks to bounce back after the loss when they travel to Mansfield St.Peter’s on Thursday Feb. 16. The clash with the Lady Spartans will be the regular season finale for the Lady Eagles. On Tuesday Feb. 21, they will meet up with conference foe, the Seneca East Lady Tigers in a secitonal semi-final matchup at Willard High School. Tip-off for the tournament matchup is set for 7 pm.
