Ridgemont outlasts Crestline in non-league boys game

CRESTLINE — The Golden Gophers boys basketball team from Ridgemont High School defeated Crestline in non-league action Tuesday 71-57. The Bulldogs are 4-16.

Ridgemont led 26-14 after one quarter and 42-32 at the half. After the intermission, the Gophers came out in the third and put up another 20-point quarter on the home team and gave themselves a comfortable 62-43 lead heading into the fourth. Crestline would hold Ridgemont to just nine points in the final quarter of play but could not overcome the deficit they faced.

Ty Clark finished with a double-double for the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Clark scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with two assists and a block to lead the way for Crestline. Zach Gregory also put up double figures in the scoring category with 14 points. Gregory had a well-rounded stat line with three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals to go with the 14 points. Max Anatra chipped in nine points in Crestline’s efforts and Kaden Ronk added eight. Davon Triplett finished the contest with five points and Tyler Sipes wrapped the Bulldogs’ scoring with four points.

The team shot 22/53 (42%) from the field, including just 2/12 (17%) from the perimeter. At the foul line, Crestline converted just 11 of 20 attempts. In total, the Bulldogs pulled down 37 rebounds, dished out 11 assists, recorded eight steals and swatted away six shots while committing 16 turnovers.

Ridgemont shot just 45% from the field against Crestline but went 12/17 (71%) from three-point range. The Golden Gophers finished at 13/25 from the charity stripe and committed just 12 total turnovers.

Trenton Sparks was the top scorer for the Gophers, scorching Crestline for 30 points on the night. Trevor Stover poured in 20 points on the Bulldogs’ defense while Cade McKinley was also in double figures with 10 points for the contest.

Just two regular season games remain for the Bulldogs. On Saturday Feb. 18, they will play their final conference game of the season when they host the Mansfield Christian Flames. Crestline will finish the season on the road on Friday Feb. 24 when they make the short trip to Galion to meet up with the Tigers.
