Galion bowlers vie for MOAC bragging rights


MARYSVILLE — The bowling teams from Galion High School were at Marysville Lanes on Saturday to compete in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference championships.

The Tigers’ boys team finished fifth out of all 13 MOAC schools and fourth of seven in the Red Division.

Overall standings on the boys side were: 1. Jonathan Alder-4,076, 2. Buckeye Valley-3,776, 3. Harding-3,665, 4. Cardington-3,542, 5. GALION-3,493, 6. North Union-3,469, 7. Fredericktown-3,402, 8. Highland-3,361, 9. Mount Gilead-3,189, 10. Pleasant-3,162, 11. Elgin-3,058, 12. River Valley-2,891 and 13. Northmor-2,349.

As a team, Galion bowled games of 805, 889 and 854 to head into the final Baker game with a score of 2548. In the Baker game, the Tigers rolled a team score of 945 to put them at their 3,493 pin score.

Dylan Ruth was the high series bowler for Galion, rolling a 546 series and achieving the high game score of 204 in the third game.

Other Tigers’ series scores for the day were: Austin Rinehart, 540; Jacob Lear, 525; Aaron Stewart, 520; David Riddle, 417.

Galion’s girls squad finished the day 12 of 13 overall and seventh of seven in the MOAC Red Division.

Overall standings on the girls side were: 1. Jonathan Alder-3,579, 2. Elgin-3,414, 3. Buckeye Valley-3,257, 4. Cardington-3,174, 5. North Union-3,169, 6. Fredericktown-3,159, 7. Harding-3,119, 8. Northmor-3,092, 9. Highland-2,872, 10. Pleasant-2,664, 11. River Valley-2,579 12. GALION-2,546 and 13. Mount Gilead-2,321.

The Galion squad rolled games of 627, 609 and 605 to total 1841 heading into the Baker game. In the Baker game, the Lady Tigers bowled their best overall game of the day with a pin count of 705 to reach their 2,546 total.

Brooklyn Potter had the high game for Galion in the third game with a 171. Potter also had the highest three-game series, bowling a 115, 120 and the 171 game to finish with a 406 score.

Other girls scores on the day were: Sara Misura, 400; Stevi Ness, 392; Macy Eicher, 286; Abby Barre (game two and three), 253; Lexi Hadamuscin (game one only), 104.

Galion’s bowling squads will now gear up for sectionals competition. On Friday Feb. 17, the girls will roll at Star Lanes at the Harbor in Port Clinton, with bowling set to start at 5 pm. The following day, the boys will take to Star Lanes as well to bowl in their sectional which will start at 12 noon.
