Northmor rallies for road win vs. Lucas

LUCAS — Northmor won on the road Tuesday, beating Lucas in a hard-fought game 41-38.

Northmor is 14-5 and in a three-way tie for first place in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division at 8-3. Centerburg and Cardington share the same league record with Northmor with three conference games remaining. Highland is in fourth place with a 7-4 record and Mount Gilead, the Knights’ opponent at home on Monday Feb. 13, is 6-5.

The first and second quarters of this contest would see very little offensive production. Northmor would manage just five points in both quarters. The Cubs, scoring just nine and six points respectively would take the 15-10 lead into the locker room for the intermission. Neither team would show much productivity in the third either with Lucas outscoring Northmor 11-9 to head into the final period up 26-19. Searching for offense, Northmor head coach Zach Ruth instructed his team to apply full-court pressure. The strategy paid off as the Knights would finally string together some offense and end the game with a 22-12 fourth-quarter advantage.

Alijah Keen and Brock Pletcher both finished the contest with 11 points. Meechie Johnson was in double figures as well, chipping in 10 points. Tyler Kegley contributed seven points and Nate Hall wrapped the Knights’ scoring with two points.

Josh Murphy was the only Lucas player in double figures, scoring 12 points against Northmor.

A pair of conference foes will travel to Northmor within the next few days. On Friday Feb. 10, the Fredericktown Freddies will face-off against the Knights. Mount Gilead, still in the hunt for a conference title, will head to Northmor High School on Monday Feb. 13.
