Girls first-round tournament games set

The girls basketball regular season is almost complete. With just a couple of games remaining, the tournament matchups and the post-season march will soon commence. Tournament seeding was held last Sunday Feb. 5 to determine the route that area teams; Galion, Northmor, Colonel Crawford and Crestline would have to take in order to keep their season and championship dreams alive.

GALION

Galion will take to the road in their opening tournament game. The Lady Tigers will be at Willard High School on Wednesday Feb. 22 to meet up with the Margaretta Lady Polar Bears at 6:15 pm.

The winner between the Tigers and the Polar Bears advances on in the bracket and will meet up with the winner of the Crestview and Mohawk matchup. That second round game will take place at Lexington High School on Saturday Feb. 25 at 8 p.m.

In a possible second round scenario, Galion could meet up with the same Mohawk team that defeated them 51-25 on Feb. 6 on the Lady Tigers’ home floor.

NORTHMOR

The Northmor Lady Golden Knights will face their first oppenent of the tournament season Tuesday Feb. 21 at 7 p.m on their home court.

Northmor’s tournament matchup is a familiar foe, the Fredericktown Lady Freddies. Fredericktown and Northmor, both members of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division, have met twice this season with both decisions going to the Freddies. Northmor lost at Fredericktown on Dec. 17 by a final of 54-50. On Feb. 3, the Golden Knights hosted the Freddies and lost 51-46.

The winner of this contest will move on to battle with the North Union Lady Wildcats on Thursday Feb. 23 at North Union, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. The Lady ‘Cats are ranked No.11 in the most recent Division III state poll.

COLONEL CRAWFORD

Colonel Crawford also got a tournament draw of an opponent within their conference (Northern-10 Athletic Conference).

On Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Willard High School, the Lady Eagles will meet up with the Lady Tigers of Seneca East.

Crawford has dropped both of the games with Seneca East this season. On Dec. 17, the Tigers hosted the Eagles and were victorious 61-55. Crawford was the home squad on Jan. 24 and Seneca East won 54-46.

The winner of that first-round contest will advance to meet the Western Reserve Lady Roughriders. Second round action will also be at Willard High School and is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:15 p.m.

CRESTLINE

The Lady Bulldogs tournament action begins Wednesday Feb. 22 at Shelby High School.

Crestline will tip-off against the New London Lady Wildcats at 8 p.m. in first round action. The winner of this game will move on to the second round where the winner of the South Central and Mansfield St.Peter’s game awaits.

In a possible second-round scenario, Crestline could meet up with the St.Pete’s team that has defeated it twice this season. Second-round action will also be played at Shelby High School, at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Feb. 25.
