LIMA — Galion’s climb toward the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League (GLSCL) playoffs became a bit more difficult after the Graders lost to Lima 9-4 on Wednesday evening.

The Graders (12-19) are now four games out of contention for the final postseason berth. The sixth spot is currently occupied by three-time defending league champion Licking County (18-17).

Lima (21-7) further cemented its place atop the GLSCL standings with the win over Galion. The Locos have won nine of their last 10 games.

Cole Gordon powered the Lima offense on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and scored three runs. The two-run homer in the home half of the first inning was Gordon’s fifth of the season.

Brett Murray finished 1-for-4, drove in a pair of runs and scored a run. Grant Williams was 2-for-6 with a double and scored two runs. Mitchell Carriger went 1-for-3, scored three runs and drove in a run. Hunter Williams also drove in a run.

Lima starter Isaiah Gonzalez-Montoya improved to 3-0 this season after picking up the win. He worked six innings and gave up two runs on three hits. He finished with seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Graders managed to come up with just four hits, as Mark Delas, Colton Carney, Alexander Malinsky and Brandon Wright each accounted for a single. Delas, Malinksy, Nicholas Riotto and Brody Basilone each scored one run for Galion.

Starting pitcher Josh Peterson was saddled with the loss and fell to 1-3. He pitched two innings and surrendered four runs on only two hits. Peterson issued five walks and had one strikeout.

A.J. Cecil gave up five runs and nine hits in four and a third innings of relief work. He struck out three and walked two.

Hunter Clanin worked the final inning and a third, holding the Locos without a hit. He recorded two strikeouts and two walks.

Galion will play five of its final six regular season games at home, beginning with a doubleheader against the Lake Erie Monarchs on Thursday at James D. Heddleson Field in Heise Park. Game one begins at 4:35 p.m. The second game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.

The Graders will travel to Flat Rock, Mich., on Friday to face the Monarchs, then return home for a pair of games this weekend. Galion will play host to the Xenia Scouts on Saturday and Sunday. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m. Fireworks will follow the Sunday game.

Galion wraps up its inaugural season on Monday with a home game against the Grand Lake Mariners at 2:05 p.m.
