Eagles blowout Rockets in final game of 2016

NORTH ROBINSON — It was cold outside but warm inside the Mac Morrison Gymnasium at Colonel Crawford High School. The Eagles played host to the visiting Ridgedale Rockets in Northern-10 Athletic Conference action Friday night. Crawford would have no issues with the undersized Rockets and picked up the 35-point victory, 72-37.

With the win, the Eagles picked up their sixth victory in a row and improved to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in N-10 play. Ridgedale falls to 2-7 for the year and 0-5 in conference action.

Crawford controlled the game from the opening tip and never showed any signs of letting up. Coming out of the gate with high energy, the Eagles would finish the first quarter up by a score of 19-9. Colonel Crawford would continue to shoot well throughout the first half and would take a 20-point lead into halftime, 36-16. After three periods, Ridgedale found themselves doubled up by Crawford with the score sitting at 50-25. The Eagles added 22 more in the final period en route to the convincing victory.

Cameron McCreary would lead all scorers in the contest with 19 points on the night. McCreary also grabbed four rebounds and dished out eight assists. Brody Martin and Heath Starkey would also contribute 14 points apiece in the victory. Martin also aided the Eagles across the stat sheet with five rebounds, three steals and an assist. Starkey would grab seven rebounds, swat four blocks, dish out an assist and pick up a steal.

Harley Shaum finished the contest with seven points, eight rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal. Reis Walker chimed in with six points and five rebounds in limited action and Jordan Fenner had five points, two assists and two steals. Hayden Bute contributed four points, four assists and three rebounds and Gavin Feichtner finished up the Crawford scoring with three points while grabbing a rebound.

As a team, head coach David Sheldon’s Eagles would shoot 21/31 (68%) from the interior, 8/20 (40%) from the perimeter and 6/10 (60%) from the free-throw line. Crawford grabbed 33 total rebounds on the evening to go with 18 assists, seven steals and six blocks, all the while committing just six turnovers.

Preston Burton was the leading scorer for the Ridgedale Rockets, finishing with 13 points. Nick Bridges added 10 points in the loss.

Colonel Crawford will welcome the Northmor Golden Knights to town on Tuesday Jan.3 for non-league play. The Eagles will then travel to New Washington on Saturday Jan.7 to meet up with the Buckeye Central Bucks in an inner-conference matchup.
