GALION — The Galion Tigers wrestling team continues to be thin due to illness and injuries but that would not stop them from traveling to Northmor High School to wrestle in dual meets against the River Valley Vikings and the Bucyrus Redmen.

Galion would drop the dual to fellow Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division member River Valley by a final score of 52-19. The Redmen and the Tigers would end up in a tie at 42 points apiece, but Bucyrus would get the nod on the third tie breaking criteria, most first points scored during the dual.

Head coach Brent Tyrrell had four wrestlers go 2-0 on the evening in their respective matches. Those wrestlers were: Brenden Ganshorn in the 106 pound weightclass, Cody Brady at 126 pounds, Garrett Kuns in the 182 pound class and Noah Grochowalski at 195 pounds.

“These four guys have been very consistent so far this season and have been improving each week,” said coach Tyrrell of the young men.

Freshman Matt Oehrli also wrestled his way to the first varsity win of his young career against his opponent from Bucyrus.

Having to deal with adversity is always tough but coach Tyrrell remains optimisitic.

“Overall we are getting better each week, but we still have a lot of work to do before we get to the ‘meat’ of our schedule in January and February. We plan on being at full strength within the next couple of week or so, then we will really see where we are (as a team).”

The Tigers will be at Madison High School on Saturday Dec.17 for a tri-meet with the home team and Highland.
