Crestline starts their season 0-4

CRESTLINE — The Mount Gilead Indians were in Crestline on Tuesday night to meet up with the Bulldogs in non-league boys basketball competition. Crestline was able to keep the game close, but dropped their fourth straight game to open the 2016-2017 season, 54-50.

The loss puts the Bulldogs at 0-4 overall and they remain 0-1 in Mid-Buckeye Conference play. With the victory, Mount Gilead improves to 2-2 on the season and reamin at 0-1 in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division action.

Ty Clark lead the way for the Bulldogs against the Indians, scoring 13 points, grabbing nine rebounds, an assist and a steal. Kevin Winkler added 10 points for Crestline in the loss and had an assist and three steals.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 16/37 from the field including 2/7 from three point range. They recorded 10 assists on their 16 total buckets. From the free throw line, Crestline shot 16/22. They hit the boards strong as a team, grabbing 30 total rebounds and were pesky on defense, racking up 11 steals. However, the 19 turnovers would haunt them en route to their fourth straight loss.

It was a close game throughout as the teams went into halftime with the Indians holding on to a very minimal lead of 24-23. Mount Gilead would outscore Crestline in the third, 11-9 and the fourth, 19-18 to secure the road victory.

Crestline’s junior varsity team was victorious, winning 47-36. The jay-vee team is now 3-1 on the season.

Up next for the Bulldogs will be MBC foe, the Lucas Cubs on Saturday Dec.17 in Lucas.
