CRESTLINE — The Crestline Bulldogs opened the season at home against the Mapleton Mounties on Friday night with hopes for an improvement over last year’s 1-22 season. Mapleton had other plans as they grabbed the victory on the road by a score of 67-53.

Crestline started out hot and took an 18-10 lead after the first quarter of play. However, the Mounties would get it together in the second period and would take a 33-30 lead by the end of the first half. Crestline struggled in the second half of play, scoring just 23 points for the rest of the game to Mapleton’s 34, leading to an 0-1 start to the 2016-2017 campaign. Turnovers seemed to be a problem for the Bulldogs as they amassed 18 for the game.

Leading the way in scoring for the Bulldogs was Ty Clark with 14 points. Kevin Winkler chipped in 10 points while Davon Triplett added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

Gage Barone of Mapleton finished his night with 34 points against Crestline and Chase Davis also started the season with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

The Bulldogs are back on the court tonight when they travel to Danville to meet up with the Blue Devils in Mid-Buckeye Conference play.
