Colonel Crawford swim teams open with wins over Wynford, Upper Sandusky

NORTH ROBINSON — The Colonel Crawford Eagles swim teams took to the pool for their first regular season meet on Monday. The Eagles played host to the Upper Sandusky Rams and the Wynford Royals and started their season on the right track, with both teams coming away with victories.

The girls team finished with 131 points, ahead of Upper with 77 and Wynford with just two points. The meet started with the 200-yard medley relay which was won by the team of Madison Sharp, Kennedy Speck, Jillianne Gregg and Pierce Krassow in a time of 1:59.57. Sharp also competed in and won the 200-yard freestyle event in a time of 2:19.99 and the 100-yard backstroke event in a time of 1:07.13. Krassow placed first in the 200-yard individual medley, winning in 2:33.55 and in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.36. Gregg was victorious in a time of 25.69 in the girls 50 yard freestyle event and the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:07.67. Speck took first in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:17.65.

Crawford’s girls squad also took first in the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hailey Ratliff, Krassow, Chloe Carman and Gregg finished with a time of 1:49.51 for the victory. Sharp, Ratliff, Carman and Speck made up the 400-yard relay team that won in a time of 4:22.37.

As for the Colonel Crawford boys team, they scored 117 points to outlast the Rams with 89 points and the Royals with 12 points. Nic Motter, Keton Pfeifer, Jake Johnson and Alex Hershey started the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, winning with a time of 1:55.77. Motter also had success individually. He placed first in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:22.30 and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:53.60. Johnson won the 100-yard butterfly event in 58:39 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.05.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Ken Fernandez, Hershey, Motter and Johnson finished with a time of 1:40.30 for the victory. Fernandez was also victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.35) and in the 100-yard freestyle (58.05).

Colonel Crawford’s season continues this Saturday Dec.3 at Shelby High School where they will compete in the Shelby Invite. The Eagles will meet up with the swimming Galion Tigers at home on Tuesday Dec.6.
