GALION — The Northmor Knights played host to the Worthington Christian Warriors on Tuesday in the first round of sectional play. Northmor won 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.
The Knights relied heavily on the serve on both sides of the ball on Tuesday. Not only did Northmor thrive on their own setting, but tallied many points off Worthington Christian’s service errors.
Kelsie Fike and Anna Donner were the top servers for coach Kara Wright. Fike was nearly perfect at 18/19 serving while earning three aces. Donner was 12/12 from the service line and added three aces of her own. Also helping the Knights’ winning efforts were Jordyn Zoll, Hope Miracle and Lindsey Wiseman. Zoll was 9/9 on the night with two aces and Miracle added 14/14 and an ace. Wiseman also had an ace.
Zoll was also busy on the offense, too, providing 21 assists and three kills. Fike led the kill column with 13 kills on 23/27 hitting. Donner went 27/30 on the attack with eight kills. Caitlin Thebeault and Rayanna Loyer racked up three kills apiece as well for the Knights.
Defensively, Northmor thwarted most of the Warriors’ attack attempts.
Lindsey Wiseman was the digs leader for the Knights, with 13 digs. Donner added 12 while Thebeault and Cristianna Boggs aided the defensive stand with six digs apiece. At the net, Donner had two solo blocks while Chloe Meier, Thebeault, Loyer and Miracle added one additional block each.
The victory brings Northmor’s season record to 18-5 and earns them another match this Saturday, Oct.22 at home against Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division rival Cardington
The Knights and the Pirates met twice this season, splitting the contest, 1-1. On Sept. 21, it took Northmor five sets to defeat Cardington. The Pirates avenged that loss by beating the Knights ix days later in four sets. These two foes will take to Northmor’s home court at 2:30 p.m.
