Galion volleyball teams rolls past Mount Gilead

GALION — The Mount Gilead Indians were in Galion on Monday night to hit the volleyball court against the Tigers in a non-league matchup. Galion was victorious, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18. With this victory, the Tigers improve to 8-12 overall and are 6-5 in league competition. The Indians fall to 1-18 and 0-11.

Top servers for the match were Abby Foust, Marisa Gwinner, Callie Wildenthaler and Chloe McCleese. Foust was strong from the service line, going 12/13 while providing Galion 11 points and four aces. Gwinner added three aces and six points on 9/10 serving. Wildenthaler was a perfect 12/12 on the serve with eight points and two aces. McCleese added ace number 10 for the Tigers on 13/15 serving, which was good for nine Tigers’ points.

Both Gwinner and McCleese were busy in other areas of the court as well. They provided Galion with 44/50 combined on the attack while recording 14 kills apiece. In total, the Tigers had 36 kills for the match. The attack game was set up by Morgan Gregory, who was 80/81 handling the ball with 32 assists on the night. McCleese provided defense of the attack too, notching 13 of the total 48 digs against Mount Gilead. Wildenthaler added 14 digs. Gwinner added four blocks to her stat line against the Indians.

Galion will host the Pioneers of Jonathon Alder in their final regular season match tonight. On Wednesday, they will travel to meet up with the Northmor Knights in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Crossover event before beginning Sectionals play next week.
