Galion girls golf season comes to an end

GALION — The Galion Tigers girls golf team has seen their season come to an end. On Tuesday, the Tigers took to the tees at Valley View Golf Course to compete in sectionals action. Galion, without Greer Gledhill or Alexis Chaplin, would play all 18 holes. From there, the team or individuals could score low enough to advance to the district tournament. The chilly and windy conditions were factors that bothered the Tigers and their scorecards.

Shae Ness shot the lowest score for the day, finishing with a 59 on the front nine and a 51 on the back nine for a total score of 110. Behind Ness was Abby Barre, finishing with a 67 and a 58, finishing with an 125. Brooklyn Potter completed the front and back nine with a 73 on each, totaling 146. Macy Eicher golfed an 83 and an 84 to end the season with a 167. Galion’s total score for the day, with no drops being available, was a 548.

“I’m proud of the year that we had,” says coach Mark Barrier. “We set personal records and set the team scoring record,” he continued.

The team was mostly seniors. Shae Ness, Abby Barre, Brooklyn Potter and Greer Gledhill will all graduate in the spring. Alexis Chaplin and Macy Eicher are both juniors.

This group of girls finished second in the Buckeye Central Invitational tournament, which was the first invite they had participated in as a program. Each girl set individual personal records at some point this season. The bulk of these records, including the Galion High School girls golf scoring record of 191, came against the Clear Fork Colts at Little Apple Golf Course in Bellville on September 20.
