Tigers volleyballers defeated by Spartans

MARION — After last week’s Volley for the Cure game win against the River Valley Vikings, the Galion Tigerstraveled to Marion to meet up with the Pleasant Spartans in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division play. Unfortunately, Galion could not keep the momentum going and dropped the match in straight sets; 19-25, 22-25, 15-25.

Leading the way for the Tigers attack was Marisa Gwinner, Gabby Abouhassan and Morgan Gregory. Gwiner was 25/27 hitting on the night and recorded 13 kills. With those 13 kills, Gwinner cracked the 200 kill mark on the year and has 206 so far. Abouhassan contributed 13/15 hitting with five kills while Gregory was a perfect 5/5 on the attack with five kills. Galion had 30 total kills on the night..

Gregory was also busy on the offensive side of the net, going 82/85 ball handling and adding all 28 assists for the Tigers. With those 28 assists, Gregory has now recorded over 450 for the season (452).

From the service line, Gwinner and Kasidee Sinclair were the two that stood out for the Tigers. Sinclair was 15/16 serving with nine points and Gwinner added 11/12 serving with six points and all three of the Galion aces.

Defensively, the Tigers recorded six blocks on the night. Abouhassan lead the way with four and Gwinner added the other two. Galion added 44 digs to their season total against Pleasant. Leading the defensive stand was Callie Wildenthaler with 12 digs and Ashley Flowers adding nine. Chloe McCleese and Gregory added seven digs apiece.

With the loss, Galion falls to 6-9 overall on the season and 5-4 in the MOAC Red. The Tigers will be back at it in on Thursday when they travel to Delaware to take on the Buckeye Valley Barons in league play.
