Pioneers hand Tigers tennis third tennis loss

GALION — The winning streak for the Galion Tigers tennis team has come to an end.

On Thursday, the Jonathon Alder Pioneers came to Heise Park as the only team to previously defeat the Tigers in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference. After a long, hard-fought match, the Pioneers once again defeat Galion, by a final score of 2-3.

Jalyn Oswald continued her dominance at third singles, easily defeating her Alder opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Kayley Gimbel won again at first singles to remain undefeated and give the Tigers their second point for the match. Gimbel upended her Pioneers foe 6-2, 7-6 (tie break 7-5).

The first doubles tandem of Kiersten Gifford and Marissa Breinich fell 2-6, 6-7 (tie break 3-7).

At second doubles, Danielle Schneider and Ellie Chandler were defeated 2-6, 2-6.

Katherine Talbott, once again at second singles, fought off her opponent for nearly three hours. When all was said and done, Jonathon Alder gained their third point and Talbott fell 1-6, 6-4, 5-7.

The Tigers are now 10-3 on the season and 7-2 in their conference.

Galion will be competing for the MOAC tournament championship on Saturday.
