The Galion boys track and field team were the Ohio High School Athletic Division II Region 6 champions out of 47 schools at Lexington High School on Friday.

The Tigers scored 46 points, followed Eastmoor Academy (43), Lexington (40), Heath (34), Triway (31), River Valley (30), Milan Edison (25) and Buckeye Valley (23.5).

The top four placers qualify for the state championship meet at the Ohio State University in Columbus from June 3-4.

Taking first for Galion boys was the 100 relay team. Jacob Fryer, Colin McCullough, Houston Blair and Drake Barnett finished the relay in 43.05 seconds — 1.26 seconds shy of the Division II record set in 1981 by Dayton Jefferson Township and 0.63 seconds under the Region 6 record set by Eastmoor Academy in 2012.

The boys 200 meter relay team of McCullough, Caleb Ivy, Blair and Barnett finished second in 1:29.35. The Division II record was 1:26.18 set in 2006, while the Region 6 record was 1:28.46 set in 2012.

Barnett also qualified for the state meet after placing second in the 200 meter dash finals — 0.41 seconds and 0.29 seconds, respectively, shy of the 2012 Division II record and 2015 Region 6 record.

State qualifiers for the Tigers include Colton Moore who placed fourth in the high jump at 6 feet, 5 inches, while Blair finished fourth in the long jump at 21 feet, 9 inches.
