Mount Gilead baseball wins Tuesday; Highland and Northmor fall

Mount Gilead got a strong pitching performance on Tuesday in edging Elgin 2-1 at home. After trailing 1-0 after the fourth inning, the Indians got one run in the fifth and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Noah Arrington pitched the first six innings, striking out eight and walking two, and Ben Hayes got the win after pitching a scoreless seventh. Offensively, the team got eight hits, with Tyler Conners finishing with a double and two singles. Cameron Brown tallied two singles and Dustin McAvoy added a double.

Highland Scots

A four-run sixth inning pushed DeSales past Highland by a 5-3 margin on Tuesday. The Scots scored in the top of the second and added two runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Columbus school scored once in the bottom of the third, but Highland maintained a two-run lead until the sixth.

Max Schreiber started the game and wound up taking the loss, while Mack Anglin pitched in relief. Highland finished with six hits in the contest.

Northmor Knights

Northmor got off to a fast start against Galion on Tuesday, but couldn’t maintain that momentum in suffering a 12-2 loss in five innings.

The visiting Knights led 2-0 after the first inning, but gave up four in both the second and third as Galion pulled away for the win. Despite outhitting the Tigers 8-5, Northmor fell due to walking seven batters, hitting three more and committing four errors.

Sam Eichorn, who suffered the loss, Gunnar Lilly and Mostyn Evans combined to strike out four in the game. Offensively, Jake Farley had three singles.
