Northmor claims track wins at Highland; MG splits with Vikings

Northmor picked up a pair of track and field wins on Tuesday at a quadrangular meet hosted by Highland. The Knights and Scots finished 1-2 in both the boys’ and girls’ meet, with Northmor finishing on top 142-112 in the girls’ meet and 161-88.5 in the boys’ meet. Danville and Fellowship of Christian Athletes also competed.

For Northmor’s boys, Demetrius Johnson picked up wins in all four of his events. He was first in the 100 (11.5), 200 (23.8), high jump (5’10”) and long jump (21’). Kolton Smith took the 110 hurdles in 16.4, while Alec Moore won the 400 in 56.6 and James Walker was first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.0. Also, Spencer Adams claimed the 3200 in 11:45.9 and Josh Caudill took the shot put with an effort of 41’1”.

Highland swept the four relays on the day. Austyn Albanese, Dakota Bunting, Garrett Mentzer and William Parsley claimed the 3200-meter relay in 9:13.9, while Parsley, Mentzer, Bunting and Nathan Bentley won the 800 relay in 1:43.6. In the 400 relay, Mentzer, Bentley, Brandon Dionne and Parsley took first in 51.1 and the quartet of Albanese, Bunting, Travis Mentzer and Garrett Mentzer claimed the 1600 relay in 3:46.2.

In the girls’ meet, the 800-meter relay team of Brooke Buzzard, Vivienne Cutrupi, Reanne McDonald and Karalee Patterson won in 2:04. Brooke Bennett picked up three wins, taking the 100 hurdles in 18.3, the 400 in 1:05.3 and the 200 in 27.9. Maria Lee won the 800 in 2:38.9 and Hope Miracle placed first in the long jump with an effort of 14’3.75”.

Also, Cristianna Boggs, Buzzard, Cutrupi and Isabelle Szulewski tied Highland’s team of Jenna Brown, Taylor Belcher, Erin Conner and Meg Mitchell to win the 400-meter relay in 57.5.

Highland took sole possession of first in the 3200-meter relay, as Jena Buchholz, Clarissa Dudgeon, Laura Spearman and Sophia Thompson won in 11:25.7. Belcher, Buchholz, Mitchell and Spearman won the 1600 relay in 4:38.

Belcher added wins in the 300 hurdles (54.8) and high jump (4’10”) for the Scots. Also, Spearman took the 1600 in 5:50.4, Thompson won the 3200 in 12:35.6, Lydia Morgan claimed the discus with a throw of 94’4.5” and Conner took the shot with an effort of 28’7.5”.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead’s track teams split a triangular meet with River Valley. Kenton also participated.

In the girls’ meet, MG finished first with 74.5 points, while River Valley took second with 66.5. In the boys’ meet, the Vikings topped the Indians 73.5-68.5.

The girls’ 1600-meter relay of Olivia Brewer, Jenna Shipman, Hannah Bush and Darcy Picker won in 4:27.2. Brewer also took the 100 in 13.2 and the 200 in 28.0. Savannah Randall also took first in two events, as she topped the field in the discus with an effort of 120’ and also won the 100 hurdles in 18.5.

Shipman won the 400 in 1:01.3, while Picker took the 800 in 2:32.8. Also, Micah James won the 3200 in 12:48.2.

The boys’ team won two events, Nick Weiss placed first in the 800 with a time of 2:10 and Austin Hallabrin won the 3200 in 10:11.8.
