Colonel Crawford Junior High

Football Practices

Football practices for Colonel Crawford school district students who will be in grades 7/8 in the upcoming school year will begin on Monday. Aug. 2 and run through Friday, Aug. 6.

Equipment will be handed out on Aug. 2 from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. Practice sessions will run from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. from Tuesday, Aug. 3 through Friday, Aug 6.

All students must have a current physical examination from on file in order to participate.

Galion Middle School

Football Practices

Incoming seventh and eighth graders interested in playing football for the Galion Middle School should show up at Unckrich Stadium on Wednesday, Aug 4 and be ready to practice.

Eighth graders are scheduled to practice from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Seventh graders will practice from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

28th Annual Galion Center YMCA 5K Race

A 5K road race, a three-mile walk and a one-half mile kids fun run will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 8:30 a.m.

Cost is $12 per person for the road race and the walk and $5 per child for the fun run. The cost will go up should participants wait until the day of the event to register.

The pre-registration deadline is Thursday, July 29. Race day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.

Galion Middle School

volleyball tryouts

Tryouts for girls who will be in the seventh and eighth grades in the upcoming school year and are interested in being members of the Galion Middle School volleyball teams will be Aug. 9 through Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. each day in the middle school gymnasium.

A completed physical examination form is required before an athlete can participate in the tryouts.

GHS Boys Basketball Golf Outing

and Cornhole Tournament

A fundraising golf outing and cornhole tournament are scheduled for Aug. 15. The events are sponsored by the Galion High School boys varsity basketball program.

The golf outing is a 4-player scramble and is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $60 per player and includes golf, cart usage, three tickets for drinks, plus a steak and pizza buffet at the Varsity Grille.

Prizes will be awarded on every hole and a skins game will be held.

Businesses and organizations are encouraged to take part in the “sponsor a hole” program. For $25 a name will be placed on a tee box sign.

For $50 the same, plus an ad, will be included in the home game basketball programs.

For $100, a tee box sign with a name on it, an ad in the program, and signage in the high school gymnasium during the season will appear.

The cornhole tournament will be comprised of 2-person teams. Cost is $10 per player and there will be a 50 percent payout. The tournament will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Varsity Grille. Registration will take place at 3 p.m.

38th Annual Bucyrus Brattie Run & Walk

The annual event will take place Saturday, Aug. 21 beginning at Aumiller Park in Bucyrus.

A 5-mile road race will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. A 3/4-mile fun run will take place at 8:15. A 3-mile walking course is also available.

Plaques to the first five overall runners in the race, the first four in each age group for men, and the first three in each women’s age group will be awarded. Two plaques will be given out in age groups 55-and-over.

Entry forms can be picked up at the Galion Center-YMCA.
