Most recent action had Cornerstone-Faith Baptist pummeling Christ United Methodist 29.5-18.5 to take the lead in the second half portion of competition.

Also, St. Paul United Methodist battered Heartland Alliance 30.5-17.5, Mansfield Baptist Temple edged out St. Peter’s Catholic 24.5-23.5, Westwood Alliance hammered St. Joseph Catholic 31-14 while Calvary Baptist of Ashland tallied 9.5 points versus a blind score.

The trio of Mike Goff, Tim Vose and Tom Young shared the top gross score honors with 39s, while Dick Hancock and Katie Roesch each carded a 40.

Roesch was tops in the net score category with a 31, while Fred Smith and Sam Staton each had a 33.

Young wins 4-man

HOJGA playoff

CALEDONIA — Nate Young of Big Walnut defeated a trio of other golfers in a three-hole playoff to capture the top spot in the 16-18-year-olds division of the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association’s final tournament of the summer.

Young, Brody Cook of Colonel Crawford, Aaron Hale of Big Walnut, and Gilead Christian’s Jason Zeigler were tied at 78 after 18 holes.

Cook and Zeigler were eliminated after the first playoff hole. Hale chipped in and Young sank a putt to tie th second hole. Young followed by dropping a birdie putt on the third hole to win his fourth of seven HOJGA tournaments this season.

In the 13-15 division, Michael Powers was first (8) while Big Walnut’s Evan Cannell and Chris Grady of Fairbanks tied for second five strokes behind.

In nine-hole, 12-and-under play, Caden Orewiler of River Valley carded a 36 to better runner-up Colin Chapman of River Valley by three shots.

Galion Country Club Results

In the recently held Men’s Senior Tournament, Brian Newell won the 50-59-year-olds division with a 69, Dick Baker and Bill Moore tied for the top spot in the 60-69 division with 68s, Ted Dennison carded a 72 to win the 70-79 division, and Gene Newell’s 69 was tops in 80-and-up play.

In the Parent/Child Tournament, Kaleigh Chambers won Group A (36), Madison Kingseed was tops in Group B (34), Evan Huggins was best in Group C (32), Ashlee Oris claimed Group D (36) and Matthew Kingseed had the best score in Group E (33). Rece Payne fired a 44 to record the over low gross score.

In the 11th event of men’s weekly golf league competition Gary Riddle recorded five pars and claimed the top spot with 38 points. Tying for second were Dave Falk and Glen Shifley Sr. with 35s, while Dan Bauman was next with 32 tallies.
