BUCYRUS — Ryan Stahl of Republic drove five winners in the first of two evenings of harness racing yesterday at the 153rd Crawford County Fair.

Stahl won five of the first six races — including three in a row — on a card that featured nine races overall.

His winners were: Race 1: Definitely Mamie, 3-year-old filly trot; Race 3: Irwin, 2-year-old colt trot; Race 5: Brownsugarsandwich, 2-year-old fill pace; Race 6: Pure Strength, 3-year-old colt pace; and Race 7: Gotta Travel On, Walter Michael Memorial Pace, first division.

Stahl’s victory in the sixth race was the evening’s most dramatic as he drove Pure Strength to a photo finish win, coming from three lengths back on the outside in the final 150 yards.

Other winners on the evening were: Race 2: Special Dark, 2-year-old filly pace; Race 4: Worker C, 3-year-old colt pace; Race 8: CC Buckshot, Walter Michael Memorial Pace, second division; and Race 9: Bigaffairintown, Walter Michael Memorial Pace, third division.

The biggest payout on a two dollar wager was recorded by CC Buckshot. Bettors who picked the Chris Page-driven horse won themselves $36.80.

The early Daily Double paid out $102.20 to bettors who picked the correct winners in each of the first two races.

Racing concludes today beginning at 5:30 p.m.
