A round robin, Texas shoot-out, men’s softball tournament will be held at the Lion’s Field in Bucyrus. The event is limited to the first 10 teams who register. If ten teams register, each team will be guaranteed to play nine games. The entry fee is $175 per team. Teams will hit their own red stitch balls (47 core). Registration for Center YMCA

youth soccer program

The Galion Center YMCA is accepting registrations for the upcoming fall youth soccer program.

Youth in kindergarten through the eighth grades are eligible to participate. The purpose of the league is to teach soccer fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.

Registration needs to take place by Sept. 5 at the YMCA service desk located at 500 Gill Ave.

MOBRL fall baseball

Sign-ups for youth in grades 6-12 who are interested in playing in the Mid-Ohio Babe Ruth League’s fall baseball league will be held on Monday, Aug. 3 and Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Buck’s Restaurant in Lexington.

Cost is $40 per player. Shirts and hats will be provided.

The season runs from Aug. 31 through Oct. 16. Teams will play twice a week. No more than four players from the same high school can be on a team.

Galion Center YMCA road race

The Galion Center YMCA will host a 5K road race, a three-mile walk and a one-half mile kids run on Saturday, Aug. 8. The event will begin and end at the YMCA.

Pre-registration is $12 for the 5k race and the three-mile walk. The fee for the kids run is $5. Race day entry fees will be taken until 8 a.m. the day of the race at a cost of $15.

Race day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. T-shirts will be given to all pre-registered participants and awards will be given to the top performers.

Galion High School

cross country practice

Practice will begin for the Galion High School cross country team on Monday, Aug. 10 at 9 a.m. Interested boys and girls should report to the shelter house area in Heise Park and be ready to run.

Galion Middle School

volleyball tryouts

Tryouts for the Galion Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams will be held on Aug. 10.

Seventh grade tryouts will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. and eighth grade tryouts will follow from 10 a.m. to noon.

Girls must have completed physical examination forms in order to participate.

Bucyrus Brattie Run and Walk

The 37th Annual Bucyrus Brattie Run and Walk will take place on Saturday, Aug. 22 beginning at Aumiller Park in Bucyrus.

The road race will be five miles in distance and there will be a 3/4-mile fun run plus a three-mile walking course.

Entry fee is $10 and check-in will be from 7 to 8:15 a.m. the day of the event. The race begins at 8:30.

Trophies will be given to the top five overall runners, the top four in each age group for men and the first three finishers in each age group for women.

T-shirts will be given to the first 175 entrants.
