“Mert” Merlyn Francis Lenhart

“Mert” Merlyn Francis Lenhart, 74, of 1040 S. Market Street, Galion, died Monday, July 26, 2010 at his residence, after a long illness.

Mr. Lenhart was born in Galion on January 29, 1936 to the late Curtis and Edna (Davis) Lenhart. He married Kathleen “Cathi” Joyce Pensinger on April, 5, 1957 and she survives him.

He was employed by the City of Galion as an Assistant Superintendent of Streets and Parks. He retired after 30 years. Mert was a charter member of ASMCE Local. He also was a Charter Life Member of AMVETS No.1979 and VFW Post No. 4329 of Galion. He served in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War. Mert was a member of the Baptist Faith. He was also a long-time member of Valley View Golf Course, Crawford County Coon Hunters and Sportsmen’s Club, and the Richland County Sky Divers Club. Mert coached Little Sox and Little League teams to several City Championships.

He is survived by his children Peggy J. Hall (Lenhart), Gregg A. Lenhart and Brenda Cottrell and Pamela K. (Chris) Tischer all of Galion. Mert is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. His sister Barbara J. Reindl of Crestline also survives him.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Kirk Allen Roberts and his brother Roland D. Lenhart.

Friends may call Wed-nesday, July 28, 2010 from 11 a.m. until 1p.m. and from 5p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Monty Trammel officiating. Burial will follow in Fulton Ceme-tery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oncology Department of the Galion Community Hospital in care of the funeral home.
