VBS in Bucyrus will have a ‘Star Wars’ theme

BUCYRUS — Area children are invited to “Spirit Wars: The Soul Awakens” Vacation Bible School. It begins Sunday, July 31 and runs through Aug. 3. Participants will meet from 6-8 p.m. each night at the Bucyrus UMC Outreach Center, 216 Hopley Ave. This year’s program is a spoof on “Star Wars.” On Tuesday, Aug. 2, Bible school moves outside to join a National Night Out block party on Woodlawn Avenue between Walnut and Lane streets.

The nine Bucyrus Neighborhood Churches sponsors include: Bucyrus UMC, Father’s Heart Healing Center, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Good Hope Lutheran Church, New Day Ministries, the Salvation Army, St. Paul Lutheran Church and St. John’s UCC.

Back to School Fest — Galion Nazarene Church, on Fairview Avenue, will have its annual Back to School Fest on Aug. 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. The church will give each children that attends a book bag and supplies. This is for kids up to 6 year’s old. Last year 120 book bags were given away and the church would like to double that effort this year.The church is asking for donations from the community. Don Cockroft at Prayer Breakfast — Former Cleveland Browns placekicker and punter Don Cockroft, a member of those amazing Kardiac Kids teams of the 1980s, will be the guest speaker at 7 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10 in the cafeteria at Bucyrus Community Hospital.

The Prayer Breakfast is being hosted by the Men’s Group at Woodlawn United Methodist Church. The community is welcome to attend.

Music Fest — First United Methodist Church of Crestline, 202 N. Thoman St., will host a Music Fest on Aug. 27, starting at 4 p.m. Musical Acts include the “Hymns of Dixie”, “The Stovers”, Luke Rietschlin and Katie, along with Pastor Becky, Joe Clark and Andy Muntis. This is a free event. Donations of Clorox wipes, tissues, pencils and paper will be taken for teachers in Crestline. Bring a lawn chair. There will be food, kid activities and more.

Good Hope Christian Preschool has two openings for 2016-2017 in the 3- and 4-year-old combination class. The class meets from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Tuition assistance is available. The first day of class is Aug. 29.

FOOD PANTRY — St. Paul United Methodist Church, 746 Cherry St., third Saturday of each month. Galion residents only, and bring a photo ID and proof of residency (phone,utility bill, etc.)

COMMUNITY OUTREACH DINNER — St. Paul United Methodist Church, 746 Cherry St., 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Aug. 31. The outreach dinners are always the last Wednesday of the month. Donations are accepted to help pay for the event. Carry out is available. No home delivery is planned.

GOD’S LITTLE ACRE MARKET — God’s Little Acre Market will take place every Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the parking lot of First Presbytarian Church, 240 S. Market St., in Galion. For more information contact Sharon Landes at 419-845-3540.
