Shawnee State University announces spring graduates
PORTSMOUTH, OH — Shawnee State University held commencement on Saturday, May 3, conferring degrees on 579 students with 338 receiving Bachelor’s Degrees, 234 receiving Associate’s Degrees and seven graduates receiving Master’s Degrees.
Students graduating from the area are:
Garry Wright, of Galion, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences.
Cody McClain, of New Winchester, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.
Caitlin McCarthy of Malone University (OH) is Vechery Scholarship recipient
CANTON — The 2014-15 recipients of the Vechery Scholarship have been named. Caitlin A. McCarthy, a senior music ministry major from New Washington, is a recipient, studying at Malone University.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederic Vechery shared the financial blessings God had given them to help relieve financial pressures faced by students, in particular seniors, who choose a private Christian liberal arts education.
Frederic Vechery, a man of great integrity, passed away October 30, 2004. He and Dorothy, his wife of 30 years, became acquainted with the Christian College Consortium (CCC) when their grandson was a student. And so they created an endowed scholarship fund from which annual awards are provided to one student at each of the 13 Consortium member institutions. 2014-15 awards total $6,000 per student.
Theodore Herr Named to EKU Dean’s List for Spring 2014
RICHMOND — Theodore Calvin Herr of Crestline is one of 2,880 Eastern Kentucky University students who earned Dean’s List honors for the Spring 2014 semester. Herr is a junior Agriculture major at EKU.
To achieve Dean’s List honors at Eastern, students attempting 14 or more credit hours must earn a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0. Students attempting 13 credit hours must earn a 3.65 GPA, and students attempting 12 credit hours must earn a 3.75 GPA.
Area Student Receives Honors from Greenville College
Greenville, IL. — Greenville College has released the names of students who qualified for honors at the conclusion of the spring semester.
Jacob Stull, Mount Gilead, is a junior in the Business Management program and received the College Scholar honor.
To qualify for the Dean’s List, freshmen are required to maintain a 3.5 grade point average (4.0 scale). Sophomores, juniors and seniors must have a 3.7 GPA. A College Scholar is a student who has made the Dean’s List for three or more consecutive semesters.
Ashland University Sets Academic-Themed Visit Days for Summer
ASHLAND — The Ashland University Office of Admissions has partnered with all academic departments on campus and will provide interactive Summer Visit Programs that will allow prospective students to investigate the college majors and careers that they are considering.
“The summer 2014 visit days are set up to allow prospective students to experience Ashland University in a number of ways, including spending time with faculty and current AU students as well as asking questions of admissions representatives,” said W.C. Vance, director of admissions. “These programs are more comprehensive than traditional campus visits because of the heavy academic and career component.”
Vance said the Summer Visit Programs will also include a campus tour, an overview of campus life and next steps for students considering Ashland University. “These unique summer events will allow prospective students and their parents to explore college majors that will help guide the students to career choices after graduation,” he said.

Exploring Majors in Education – Monday, June 30, from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
Exploring Majors in Health – Monday, July 14, from 1:30 to 4:15 p.m.
Exploring Majors in Business – Monday, July 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Exploring Majors in Law and Service Professions – Monday, July 21, from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Exploring Majors in Health – Monday, Aug. 4, from 1:30 to 4:15 p.m.
Exploring Majors in the Arts – Friday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
