MARION — Troopers from the Marion Post of the Sate Highway Patrol are investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Aug. 6, 2014 at approximately 1:02 p.m. on State Route 309 at State Route 100 in Tully Township, Marion County.
The crash involved a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by George T. Fetch, 86, of Mansfield. The second vehicle was a 1999 Freightliner FL80 dump truck driven by Larry J. Steinhilber, 65, of Galion.
The Chevrolet was southbound on SR 100 approaching SR 309. The Freightliner was eastbound on SR 309 approaching SR 100. The Chevrolet failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by the Freightliner, which pushed both vehicles off the right side of the roadway.
Mr. Fetch was taken to Galion Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Mr Steinhilber was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Morrow County Sheriff’s Department, First Consolidated Fire, Iberia Volunteer Fire and Morrow County EMS.
The crash remains under investigation and toxicology results are pending.
