DELAWARE — After losing the first game of a doubleheader to host Buckeye Valley on Saturday, the Tigers rebounded with a 6-5 triumph in the nightcap.


Galion (7-2) jumped on the Barons for three runs in the top of the first inning of the second game and never trailed in a 6-5 win.


Josh Eckert, Nick Flowers and Josh Keller swatted 2 singles apiece for the locals. Flowers also scored twice. Mike Harris added a base hit and 2 runs batted in, as did Kole Nickell.


Harsh had 2 singles for the hosts.


Chad Karnes was the starting pitcher for Galion, going 3 innings, yielding 4 hits, 1 run (earned) and striking out 3. John Poffenbaugh got the win with 4 frames of relief duty. He surrendered 3 hits, 4 runs (2 earned), whiffed 3 and handed out 5 bases on balls.


Molner and Gregory hurled for the Barons, combining to give up 9 hits, retire 7 via strikes and walk 6. Gregory got the loss in relief.


In the opener, shoddy defense cost the Orange-and-Blue as they committed 5 errors. Trailing 7-2, they plated 3 runs in the top of the sixth, trimming the gap to 7-5. Buckeye Valley got the 3 runs back in its half of the frame though, making it 10-5. The locals scored two more times in the seventh.


Flowers cranked out 3 singles, Bryton Carpenter slammed a roundtripper and a single and drove in 2 runs, to go with a one-bagger each from Mike Harris, Josh Keller and Eric Powell.


Four players connected on 2 singles each for Buckeye Valley.


Bryce Lybarger and Kole Nickell worked the hill for Galion. The former started and was tagged for 8 hits, 6 runs (2 earned), struck out 1 and walked a hitter in 3 2/3 innings. He got the loss. Nickell threw 2 1/3 frames allowing 4 hits, 4 runs (2 earned), retiring a trio on strikes an d handing out a free pass.


Schwartz, Parker and Spalding pitched for the Barons. They combined to give up 8 hits, 3 earned runs, strike out 8 (all by Schwartz) and walk 3. Schwartz was the pitcher of record.
