The United Way of Crawford County says it’s time to “Live United.”

This fall, readers may choose to make a difference in their community by supporting the 2014 UWCC campaign that kicks-off on Sept. 2.

The goal this year is to raise $315,000. According to UWCC Executive Director Amber Rarick Wertman last year’s campaign raised $308,000. Each year organizers hope to raise the bar a little higher. She says that way annual giving to the United Way allows area agencies to engage in long-lasting, positive change in Crawford County.

“It’s all truly local. It’s your United Way. When you look down through the list of agencies that receive these funds, the money really does stay in the community,” says Wertman. She adds that one in three persons are positively influenced by United Way dollars, but only one in 10 actually give.

This year UWCC is making it so easy for one to give. They have scheduled a number of events:

On Tuesday, Sept. 2, Phil’s Deli, 814 Harding Way West, in Galion, will host a cookout from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Phil’s cookouts are popular among locals. Supporters of the UWCC are encouraged to stop by an enjoy hot dogs, brats and Waldo’s Bologna.

On Wednesday, Sept. 3 and Thursday, Sept. 4, the Bob Evans Restaurant, 1517 N. Sandusky, in Bucyrus, will host a “dine-to-donate” challenge. From 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. each day, customers may support the Campaign by having 15 percent of their bill to go to UWCC.

On Friday, Sept. 5, supporters may take part in a give back at Jane’s Hunger Paynes, 819 East Main St., in Crestline, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

A first for the annual campaign, a designer bag bingo will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Crestline Banquet Hall, 400 Scott St. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with bingo play to begin at 7 p.m. Ticket purchase includes 20 playing cards, one raffle ticket and free food. Followers may visit www.facebook.com/uwccdesignerbagbingo for more information.

Donley Ford will sponsor a “Drive for Ford and Agency Fair” at Heise Park in Galion on Saturday, Oct. 4. UWCC is calling for at least 300 divers to reach their goal for this event, $12,000. The Fair runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Crossroads Candles in Bucyrus is teaming up with UWCC to host a Holiday Open House and presale. It will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13. Call to reserve your tickets at 886-247-0156. All proceeds from this event will go to the UWCC.

And finally, on Tuesday, Dec. 9, the Galion Pizza Hut, 820 Harding Way West, will hold a buffet fundraiser including a special visit from Santa Claus. The event will be held from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. and photos with Santa may be taken during that time.

The UWCC vision is to inspire individuals and organizations to work together for the betterment of Crawford County. Individual donations may be specific; Wertman says it’s easy to specify an area agency on donation forms that are available at the Bucyrus and Galion Area Chamber of Commerce offices. Among the number of designated agencies are Turning Point Domestic Violence Program, Galion’s Golden Age Center and Good Will Industries, just to name a few that readers may be familiar with in the area.
