Mother’s Day is just around the corner. I can tell you that mothers everywhere always enjoy the visits, the phone calls, the gifts, and the attention bestowed upon them when that special Sunday in May arrives! There are as many ways to celebrate moms, as there are “types” of moms to celebrate! Flowers have always been a staple when it comes to Mother’s Day gift giving. The area florists and greenhouses find this to be one of their busiest days. The restaurants also see increased business as moms are taken out of their kitchens.
If you are looking for something different to give Mom this year, do not worry. There are countless possibilities! Lots of moms still appreciate the sentimental trinket or card that conveys what we all too often fail to put into words. We all like to know that we are loved and appreciated for those things we unselfishly do and have done for our children. Some personal item like a piece of jewelry, a new purse or scarf, even a fancy umbrella would make a nice gift. Maybe you have decided that a gift card is the gift of choice. But it becomes more special when given with an item (no matter how small) that tells Mom that you put some time and thought into choosing something just for her.
I love when the dads bring the children into my store to find something for their mothers. I like to watch the little ones deliberate over the many choices. It is usually not surprising that the children have a sense of what their mothers like, and not like. It is somewhat amusing that they usually do not hesitate to share this information with the dad when he attempts to sway the decision!
For years, my sons cleaned out the garage every year around Mother’s Day. It was something that made me happy. Now, the garage gets cleaned out whenever my husband and I get around to it (and that isn’t very often). So don’t overlook doing some task that would be meaningful to your mom or make life easier for her. Focus on what makes her smile. Whatever you do to help Mom celebrate Mother’s Day, remember that spending time with her may be the gift she will cherish most.
