GALION — Two Galion City School District students advanced to the Tri-County Spelling Bee at 6:30 p.m. at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) Thursday, Feb. 9.

Ben Rinehart (5th grade) and Makayla Crockett (4th grade) finished in the Top 12 of the Crawford County Spelling Bee at William Crawford Intermediate School Jan. 12.

“Our students worked diligently to prepare for the Crawford County Spelling Bee,” said Gifted Coordinator Leanna Ferreira. “Ben and Makayla have been studying diligently to further develop their spelling skills for the regional competition at MOESC.”

Two Galion students qualified to take the online Scripps spelling bee test, which determines a student’s qualification for the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee at Ohio University in March. Ben Rinehart and Grayden Pierce took the test and expect the results to be announced the first full week of February.

“I want to commend our students, along with Mrs. Ferreira, on a great job preparing for the county spelling bee,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “We are excited for Ben and Makayla in the Tri-County Spelling Bee at MOESC and wish them all the best in the competition.”
