Vernon St. — The Delaware County Model Railroaders will hold extended hours today, in connection with the Sunbury Sizzle & Sounds festival. Visitors can view the models trains as they travel through town and country – miniature, of course! This program is free and for all ages.

• Walking the Waterway, Sunday, Aug. 24, 4 p.m., Shale Hollow Preserve, 6320 Artesian Run — Walk Big Run creek to look for insects and other animals that find refuge in small pools and under wet rocks. Wear boots or shoes that can get wet and muddy. Meet in the lower parking area. Ages 5 and older.

Big Walnut Friends Who Share — Eastern Delaware County’s all-volunteer grass-roots social service agency serving Big Walnut area families throughout the year with food assistance, clothing, furniture, kitchen appliances - anything needed in a household. Volunteers help out at the center from 9 a.m. until 11:30 every Monday morning. 2nd Annual HSDC “Uptown Bow Wow” Dog Show, Friday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. in downtown Westerville — The Bow Wow Dog Show and Yip Yap parade gives canines a chance to shine in Waggiest Tail/Body, Best Pet Trick, Owner/Pet Look-Alike, Most Mysterious Heritage, and Best Vocal Performance (bark, howl, grunt). Participants can pre-register online www.hsdcohio.org, or at Captivating Canines,12 E. Main St., Westerville, for a chance to win a $50 gas card. Owners can also register their dogs at the event from 6-7 p.m. in front of the Westerville Municipal Building, 21 S. State Street. Fees are $15 per entry for the dog show and a donation in any amount for the parade and $5 for additional dogs or categories. All entry fees will benefit the Humane Society of Delaware County.
