The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn people of a scam that might possibly be coming to our area. Usually one subject may approach a resident and speak with them about the need for lightning rods or lightning rod repair. This individual may or may not do work on the roof. If work is done, minimal work is done, but not equal to the price charged.

A similar scam performed several years ago victimized several Crawford County and surrounding county residents. The suspect targeted mainly the elderly in rural areas, and was believed to belong to a larger organized crime group. This suspect was difficult to apprehend as he was linked to victimizing a multi-state region. He would pass through and be out of our area, two or three times a year, many times before law enforcement was contacted. The suspect was apprehended and convicted in Wyandot County in 2009.

Should anyone be approached by someone requesting to do any lightning rod work, please immediately contact the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office at (419)562-7906. If at all possible, obtain the best description you can of the subject, the vehicle that is being used, and license plate if at all possible.

If you have had lightning rod work done recently by a company or individual, who is not from this area, please contact Captain Scott Baldosser at the Sheriff’s Office.
