The Ohio State University at Newark Honors program is proud to present an evening of poetry by widely published poet, Julie Babcock at 7 p.m. on April 5 at the Sparta Restaurant and Café located at 16 West Main St., Newark. This event is free and open to the public.
Having spent the first twenty years of her life in Ohio, Babcock, is now a lecturer at the University of Michigan where she teaches writing and literature courses. The first week of April she will be visiting and meeting with some Assistant Professor of English David Ruderman’s classes at Ohio State Newark. Babcock received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Chicago and her Master of Fine Arts from Purdue University.
Babcock’s first collection of poems, Autoplay (MG Press) focuses primarily on Midwestern motifs and landscapes. Her poetry and fiction have appeared in various journals and anthologies including The Rumpus, The Iowa Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review and the recent anthology Feast! (Black Lawrence Press). She is the recipient of fellowships and grants from the Vermont Studio Center and the Indiana Arts Commission and has been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes.
Opening music will be presented by The Neo-Splash Soul Brothers.
