The Northmor Youth Safety Council and JOG program began their Distracted Driving Service Project this fall with getting activities ready for the school year.
This year the ODOT driving simulator came to Northmor High School and students and teachers were given the chance to drive as distracted drivers. Different scenarios were given with driving incidents and students had a chance to go to court in front of a judge.
Next students had the opportunity to play Mario Cart and with DUI googles to understand what happens when driving impaired. The Youth Safety Council and JOG also started up their SPOTS campaign by creating a seatbelt with the spots.
The SPOTS campaign is to remind students to wear their seatbelts while driving including the back seat passengers. SPOTS is So Put On The Seatbelt. In April, the council will have the Distracted Driving Poster Contest and will be handing out thumb texting and driving bands to students.
The council plans to host more safe driving events in the future.
