Art celebration happening in Galion this year

The atrium room at the Varsity Grille in Galion will be transformed into an art gallery of sorts on Tuesday for the third annual Fat Tuesday party.

The event is sponsored by the Crawford County Arts Council and was held for the past two years in Bucyrus at the former Gus’s Grille and Grog.

“We wanted to bring it to Galion this year,” said Lisa Riedel, a local artist and member of the arts council.

Riedel said there is room for more artists to bring their smaller pieces in for viewing by area residents.

“We want people to see how much talent we have in Crawford County. We are asking for local artists to bring in a few of their pieces to display so people can see what they have to offer,” Riedel said.

Along with beautiful and functional art pieces, there will be music provided by Bucyrus-based musician Dave Miller.

“The Varsity Grille is providing a pizza bar, free of charge, which will feature their delicious stone-fired pizzas,” Riedel said.

There is no cost to attend the Fat Tuesday celebration that will also feature free beads for everyone in celebration of Mardi Gras and there is no fee for artists to display their creations.

“The artists should bring business cards that they can hand out so people can contact them in the future,” Riedel said. “Artists should come to the Varsity Grille around 5 p.m. to set up their displays.”

Riedel said the event is informal and is set to be a relaxing evening beginning at 7 p.m. and lasting until at least 9 p.m.

The Varsity Grille is located at 451 Portland Way N.

The Crawford County Arts Council was formed over three years ago by a group of artists and interested community members as a collaborative organization working to initiate, support and preserve quality arts experiences throughout the county.

Riedel said artists are encouraged to post photos of their work on the Facebook event page.
