Bucyrus student is 2015-16 Choose Ohio First Scholarship recipient and STEMM Scholar

Abigail Williams, a student at Kent State University pursuing a degree in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics and/or medicine (STEMM) field, is a 2015-16 Choose Ohio First Scholarship recipient and STEMM Scholar.

Williams is a freshman, majoring in biology within the College of Arts and Sciences.

Williams is one of nearly 100 Kent State STEMM Scholars and Choose Ohio First Scholarship recipients, all of whom are among the top students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) in the state, and are recognized with scholarships provided through the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The funding is designed to support top Ohio talent and promote employment and opportunity for these scholars. The Kent State STEMM Scholars study a variety of science-based fields, both traditional and cutting-edge.

To date, Choose Ohio First Scholarships have been awarded to more than 4,000 students in 28 programs involving 41 Ohio public and private institutions. Scholarship awards range from $1,500 to $5,200 per student, per academic year. The scholarships have leveraged more than $32 million in matching funds from Ohio colleges and universities, and their business partners.

Williams’s scholarship, research interests and campus leadership all greatly contribute to the vibrancy of the Kent State community.
