Galion gets new pole digger truck

The city of Galion welcomed the arrival of a new pole digger truck for the city’s electrical department on Thursday.

According to Superintendent Tony Slone, the truck replaces a 1986 truck that the department was using.

“I don’t know too many people that use a truck for 30 years,” Slone said. “We were definitely in need of a new truck.”

The $204,000 truck will provide several services for the city.

“It is used mainly to set poles and transformers but we can also use it for other jobs such as laying piping for the water utility department,” Slone said.

Slone said the truck is essentially like a mobile crane that lifts and sets power poles and transformers.
