A former Ohio State star running back was charged with driving under the influence on Sunday in Morrow County, according to the State Highway Patrol.

According to a Columbus Dispatch report, Maurice Clarett, 32, of Canal Winchester, was driving an Infiniti SUV north on I-71 shortly before 2 p.m. when police and court documents indicated he was stopped for changing lanes without signaling.

According to reports, one caller told the State Patrol dispatcher that the driver of the SUV was “swerving erratically.”

“He is toasted,” the caller said. “He’s all over the place.”

Police said the caller stayed on the phone with the dispatcher for about 20 minutes, following the SUV for about 15 miles, until police arrived.

Clarett reportedly left Interstate 71 to go through a drive-through on Route 61 before getting back on Interstate 71 before being pulled over.

Reports indicated Clarett was alone and appeared to be impaired, refused to undergo field-sobriety and blood-alcohol tests and was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence and a turn-signal violation.

He was released and will appear Thursday in Morrow County Municipal Court.

Clarett has had legal issues after leaving Ohio State after one year. He served four years in prison and had recently toured the country as an inspirational speaker.
