Fred Fox of Huron has been named the new Superintendent at the Wynford Local Schools.

“We are pleased to announce that Fred Fox will be the new Superintendent at Wynford. Mr. Fox is very qualified as he brings a wealth of teaching and school administration experience to this position,” stated Jeff Schiefer, President Wynford Board of Education.

Fox has compiled an impressive career in Ohio public schools. He was a Teacher and Athletic Director at Berlin-Milan Schools. He then became Principal at Berlin-Milan for four years. Fox served as Superintendent at Huron City Schools for eleven years. And, most recently he has been employed as Interim Assistant Superintendent at North Central Ohio Education Service Center in Tiffin.

Fox was hired at Huron Schools when the district was placed on fiscal emergency by the Auditor of State. Through his guiding efforts, the community passed an 8.9 mill-operating levy. The fiscal emergency was resolved within two years following his employment. Subsequently, 7.6 million dollars was carry-forward in 2012 resulting in an 8 million dollar bank balance. In addition, test scores improved each year. The district was rated Excellent or Excellent with Distinction for the past seven years. Fox left the Huron Schools with high test scores, money in the bank and updated facilities.

“Coupled with my research and through the interview process by the Wynford Board of Education along with their identified school district objectives, I became very fond of Wynford. This position offers challenges as I coordinate efforts in completing the School Board’s objectives. I am energized in meeting and working with the Wynford staff and residents of the Wynford Local School district,” Fox commented.

The North Central Ohio Educational Service Center assisted the Wynford Board of Education by posting the superintendent opening. Their support included receiving and vetting the prospective candidates. “It became very clear as the applications came in that Mr. Fox was a leading contender for the superintendent position. He has energy, experience and commitment to Wynford that will allow him to do an excellent job,” stated Dr. Jim Lahoski, Superintendent/CEO, of NCOESC.

Public record shows that Fred Fox was terminated from his Superintendent position at the Huron City Schools in 2012 by a three member majority of the Huron Board of Education, without due cause. Allegations for termination centered on an authorized expense account and a personal trip. Fox challenged the termination and a hearing was conducted by the Ohio Department of Education. Subsequent to an in-depth hearing, Fox was exonerated in 2014.

“Fred Fox was forthcoming with his unwarranted termination at Huron with the Wynford Board of Education. In fact a complete draft of his hearing was provided with his application for superintendent. In addition, Fred volunteered complete details during our interview process. The School Board thoroughly reviewed the matter and sought references that verified Fred’s high level of integrity and excellent performance while Superintendent at Huron. We wholeheartedly welcome Fred and look forward to his becoming a member of the Wynford School Family,” stated the Wynford Board of Education.
