Several additional fund-raisers have been announced for a 12-year-old Galion girl who was recently diagnosed with four tumors.

The following events are part of an effort to help Melanie Wheeler, a sixth-grader at Galion Middle School, and her family as she battles cancer:

* Benefit all-you-can-eat pizza buffets will be held 5:30-8 p.m. Nov. 10 and Dec. 8 at the Galion Pizza Hut.

* Donation containers for area businesses will be out and in place by Nov. 7.

* A benefit spaghetti dinner is slated 3-7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Galion Middle School. Cost of the meal is by donation.

In addition, Galion Middle School recently raised $2,900 for the family during a penny fund-raiser. Overall, the school district announced Thursday that over $7,000 was raised for the family.

Angela Heckert, a family spokesman, said Melanie has been going back to school for half-days this week.

“There was a little scare this week when she was having the same pains, but she’s feeling better now,” Heckert said.
