The Portland Way South road within city limits is expected to be closed until December.

The construction this week on Portland Way South has closed the road within city limits.

“The road is being closed to all through traffic except local traffic,” Galion Police Department Chief Brian Saterfield said. “The locals can still get to the businesses, hospitals, nursing home there are alternate routes to get there.”

The police department recommends following the detours during the time the route will be closed.

“We have officers out writing traffic situations,” Saterfield said. “For those who aren’t following the detours.”

He said city officials understand the frustration and are working with ODOT to improve the detour signs.

“The signage is from the local contractor,” Saterfield said. “We are looking to add better signage.”
