BELLVILLE — Clear Fork’s Lady Colts got back on the winning track Monday night in a big way, defeating visiting Pleasant 5-0 in Mid Ohio Athletic Conference action to improve to 3-1 in the league and 9-3 overall.

The teams played their way to 0-0 tie at the end of the first half. While the scoreboard was even, this didn’t mean they were playing evenly.

The Lady Colts dominated the first half in every way, except in the score as they put 20 shots on goal compared to just one for the Lady Spartans.

In the second half, Clear Fork continued peppering the Pleasant goal with shots and this time as able to get a few to go within the first two minutes. One minute into the second half, Lilly Wortman re-directed a pass from Trinity Cook to put the Lady Colts up 1-0. Just two minutes later ,Cook launched a high shot over the out-stretched arms of McCall to up Clear Fork’s lead to 2-0.

Lady Colts head coach Brittany Bechtel said in the second half her team began to pick up the pace and widen the field.

“And we began playing the game we are capable of playing,” Bechtel said.

Although Clear Fork led 2-0 and was playing with more intensity, so was Pleasant as they began to press the ball more on offense and played tighter defense.

But the Colts were too good. They continued to work the ball and level shots on the Pleasant goal with Cook getting a second goal. Carly McCue and Torri Curry also scored. Cook and Morgan Galco added assists to support the effort. Trinity Cook had a big night with two goals and two assists.

Bechtel said she thought her team’s inability to do what it needed to during the first half gave Pleasant some hope.

“It kept them in a game which we should have buried them earlier than we did,” Bechtel said.
