Roadblocks in life? It’s never too late for detour

COLUMBUS – Life’s journey is full of twists and turns, and roadblocks can sometimes keep folks from realizing their full potential. But experts say it’s never too late for a detour.

Ohioans have a new opportunity to rediscover what’s most important in their lives during a Life Reimagined experience next month, hosted by AARP Ohio. Its associate state director for outreach, Nicole Ware, said participants will be able to reflect on their purpose in life and consider what’s next for them.

“Anyone can do anything at any age, and the culture is redefining itself to accept and to allow that,” she said. “You can be 20, you can be 50, you can be 70; it’s never too late to pursue your dreams, and your passions.”

Ware said AARP will focus on the areas of personal fulfillment, relationships, work and well-being. According to data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Americans rate their general satisfaction with life at about seven on a scale from zero to 10.

Ware said the experience will offer motivational speakers and breakout sessions to help people develop their own road map for success.

“They’ll be able to not only go to this event and hear inspiring stories and information, but take home some written tools and resources to help them actually pursue whatever it is their goal is,” she said.

Chris Gardner, the real-life entrepreneur portrayed in the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness,” is the keynote speaker and will share the story of his journey of perseverance through overwhelming challenges. The experience will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Sharonville Convention Center. More information is online at aarp.org/cincinnati.
