Galion considers Public Information Officer role

Galion could get a Public Information Officer position as early as November.

City Council passed a first reading on an ordinance Tuesday night which would create the full-time position.

Council’s Finance Committee will meet Wednesday night to discuss a job description and salary for the position.

Council President Carl Watt said the role will entail city web site updates, writing stories from the city and handling public records requests for information along with other duties.

The measure passed 6-1, with Councilwoman Susan Bean casting the lone dissenting vote.

“I think we should have the job description and pay more clear before creating the position by ordinance,” she said. “It seems backwards to me.”

“We haven’t heard any objections to this point.” Galion Mayor Tom O’Leary sad. “The job description is not part of the ordinance.”
