A Galion man who has been missing since Monday was found safe Thursday night.

Galion Police Chief Brian Saterfield said 68-year-old Fred Saunders. Sr. was found safe with family members Thursday evening.”

“He’s back home and safe now.” said his son, Lee Saunders. “We want to thank everyone who looked for him, especially the Guardian Angels. They were the ones who found him.”

An extensive search was conducted by the Galion Police Department with help from the Crawford County Sherriff’s Department and Guardian Angels.

“We couldn’t find him in Galion,” Commander of the Bucyrus Chapter of the Guardian Angels Robin Michael said. “We looked everywhere a person could potentially be to get out of the weather. Our instincts were he wasn’t in Galion.”

The Guardian Angels went back to the family to get more ideas of where he could be.

“We went back to the family.” Michael said. “We got more details and went on a hunch to Marion. We looked up phone numbers and addresses, but none of them were any good and we contacted the Marion Police Deapartment.”

Saunders was confirmed safe at 11:30 p.m. Thursday at his sister’s house in Marion.

“They (Marion Police Department) went to the homse and confirmed he was there,” Michael said.

Saunders told family members he hitchhiked to Marion.
